Wordpress-Phorum bridge

Warning: the current version of the WordPress-Phorum bridge (1.3) does not work with WordPress 2.1+. I will hopefully be able to get a new version up soon; major apologies to anyone this inconveniences.

This page contains the files necessary to integrate the WordPress blog and the Phorum forum.

With a number of small exceptions, I did not create the code or files available here. The process was primarily conceived and coded by Michael Glögl, with some bits of it supplied by Brian Moon in this post on the Phorum support forum. I cannot offer anything beyond limited support for these scripts; they are offered here as a courtesy to ease other's path into the world of WordPress-Phorum integration.

This bridge makes it so that any users added to WordPress are automatically inserted into Phorum (and all users deleted in WordPress are automatically deleted in Phorum). Additionally, when a user logs into WordPress they are automatically logged into Phorum, and all user details are managed through WordPress.

Get the most recent version (1.3) here:

wordpress-phorum.zip

File contents

  • WordPress plugin (phorum.php)
  • Phorum mod (wplogin)
  • README.txt

The ReadMe contains all information you need to install the WordPress-Phorum bridge; please make sure to read it in order to get things running correctly. As of 1.3, editing the source files is no longer necessary to install the bridge.

Upcoming

This is not the final version of the WordPress-Phorum bridge that I plan to release. It is lacking something major: template instructions and defaults.

The next major release of this package (1.4) will include a template based on the Phorum default template that has all the login/out info removed (since that is handled entirely by WordPress) and instructions for integrating the template within your current WordPress template.

For now, if you need to get things up and running including the necessary changes to the Phorum template, pleaes refer to the instructions in the post that started it all, and the comments in this thread on the Phorum support forum.
